Petition To Abolish Florida's Use Of The Death Penalty

We, the undersigned, petition the Legislature and Governor of the State of Florida to abolish the use of the death penalty by the State of Florida. 

We recognize the death penalty was long considered a right response to the gravity of violent crimes and the means of safeguarding the community.  Today, however, we have improved methods of incarceration which protect the innocent from the violent.

Furthermore, we recognize the dignity of the human person is not derived from their actions but is endowed by their Creator.

We, therefore, hold that the death penalty is inadmissible because it is unnecessary to protect the community and is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the human person and we petition the Legislature and Governor of the State of Florida to abolish its use.
